Easter Island - Rapa Nui / February 13, 2014

Easter Island,  Land of the Moa - it was only a sail-by.  But, it was a beautiful day sailing around this very isolated island.

Photo taken from the balcony

We decided to throw a cocktail party Feb 12th, for our dinner companions.  These are the canapés from room service.

Flowers from Michael and Meldy, two of the guests

Looking up at the bridge, the water reflected there.

The Pacific Ocean at its most "pacific".

First sight of Easter Island, Feb 13th

The clouds look like smoke.

Very little vegetation

Where is a moa????

At last!!

Large heads, left on the hillside

All of these photos were taken from the ship

Favorite crew members!

Sailing back to the windward side

Modern Moae!

A treacherous stretch of water between the large rock on the left and the main island.  Young men of the birdman cult, the second of the prehistoric societies on Rapa Nui had to swim to the rock, gather birds' eggs and bring them back.

The rock

Finally, a town!

Turning around the island.

The airport

The last moa.

And friends
